I would like to be able to recieve a grant that would allow me to take advantage of the area's feed by-products, I would like to purchase a piece of equipment that I can utilize to process the feed. Alittle extra for the purchase of associated equipment for storage and the by-product would be helpful. The machine I would l like is $10,500.00 and is in great shape, new it would cost over $20,000.00  If I could recieve a grant $20- 25,000.00 I would greatly appreciated it. I may be classified as disabled but I am willing and able to make this project successful. I am in Northern California.

Hello Laticia:

I just finished reading your post, and would like to compliment you on your ideas. I do have a question though. Do you really feel that it is your God given right to expect others to pay for the type of lifestyle that you have described?

I mean, I understand if someone has fallen on hard times and may need a little help, but for someone to feel that it is the responsibility of tax payers & our government to provide for us in this manner is, selfish. I mean, when you say, "that it is a God given right to have food, water, shelter, and entertainment" is wrong. I mea, if you read the bible God made it clear that each of us will have to work, and it is from the sweat of our brow that we will eat. Ref.: Genesis 3:19. I don't believe that God ever intended for us to become a drain upon society. It's a shame because there are a lot of people out there that feel the same way, however, people are finally starting to wake up and realize that they are tired of giving their tax dollars away. In fact, I have been writing my state rep. & congress man/woman that they need to start looking for new ways to reform these government assistance programs. I believe that the government should start to impose time limits to those who receive assistance. I mean, as I stated earlier, it is one thing to help those who have fallen on hard times and just need some type of temporary assistance, but it is quite another thing to continue to provide assistance to those that lack the aspiration to do better with their lives, and, who view assistance programs as a form of livelihood. This type of mentality has only served to rob honest hardworking americans of tax dollars.

The quickest to take is to start small and then build your way up! But I get the feeling that this is not the way that you want to go.

If you are talking about getting a grant or loan you will have to realize that you are going to have to show WHY you should be granted any money!

For instance, a lot of the grant programs that I know about that have to do with women wanting to start their own business often requires - at a minimum - a business plan that has to be submitted as part of the application process for a grant (this applies to loans as well). Even if you are seeking an investor the same thing will apply!

There are grant programs out there for those that want to start their own business! As a matter of fact I have recently posted on my blog about a grant program for women that want to start their own business. This is a state grant program so first you would have to see if you are a resident of the right state. There is another grant program for minorities that want to start their own business and the grant award for this grant program is $25,000!

But keep in mind that you have to apply first! You won't automatically be given a grant just because you say that you need one!

I would advise that you first develope a business plan because you have to show that you are serious about what it is that you want to do!

Next comes the research where you seek out the grant programs that you may be eligible for.

My fiance` has been a farmer, successful I might add, for his whole life of 33 years. He began helping his father, whom is a former farmer of tobacco. But he's began his own business 7 years ago. As some of you may, or may not know, farming is a tough business, financially & weather permitting. He has NEVER been late paying the bills, and has EXCELLENT credit(for now!)as well as holding a degree, bachelors in business finance from Georgia Southern University. The problem: The bank where he has been with all this time, has decided that they will NO LONGER FUND LOANS for farmers. We have right at $500,000 invested with this bank, but they are refusing to help now! We also take care of his mother, which is disabled, with a mature mortgage. I work, but only part-time due to medical disabilities, but my salary doesn't begin to cover all of our bills. We have two(2) teenage boys who wish to attend college & have extensive needs & requirements! PLEASE, if anyone could lead us in the direction where we may find some resources to get back on our feet, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

I am very aware of what I am required to request a grant. I have written grant proposals in the past. I am looking to obtain $250,000.00 to start up my restuarant. I have my business plan 95% complete, just need to finalize 1 part of my plan. Just need to be given names of grants that I may contact to send my info too...

You have to understand more basically about grant programs in general.  I do know that there are grant programs that open to minorities that want to start their own business - even additional grant programs for women that want to start their own business, etc.....

Most of the grant programs that award grant money for those that want to start their own business will at least require you to submit a business plan.  Do you have one ready to submit?

And probably the most important question that has to be answered is how much grant money are you looking for?

Have you tried the small business administration. Also I knew a man who wrote letters for grants for small businesses, and you said you are a monority and a woman, those two characteristics will get you a grant! Find the planning commision where you live and ask if they have a grant writer. Also find the sba office for where you live and make an appointment and they will get you started. You may not need any money or very little even if you have bad credit. Good luck and God bless you.

I don't know, could you? If qualifying for a grant were based simply on ignorance and racism, I'm sure you would.  Apparently, de-segregation has gone no further than the fountain.
